Lincicome shoots 69 for Sybase lead

05/15/2009 - Clifton, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brittany Lincicome shot a three-under 69 on Friday to take the midway lead at the Sybase Classic.

Lincicome, who won her first major at last month's Kraft Nabisco Championship, finished two rounds at 11-under 133 for a two-shot lead over Ji Young Oh (69) and Suzann Pettersen (70).

First-round leader Helen Alfredsson, after setting a tournament scoring record with a career-best 62 on Thursday, fell five strokes off the lead with a four- over 76 on Friday.

Alfredsson and Wendy Doolan (68) are tied for fourth place at six-under 138.

Nineteen-year-old Michelle Wie, still seeking her first LPGA Tour win, shot a 69 to share sixth place with Karrie Webb (69), Paula Creamer (69), Song-Hee Kim (67) and Sandra Gal (69) at five-under 139.

Lincicome's steady round included 15 pars and just three birdies. But she made the birdies count.

She used a five-iron to reach the green in two shots at the par-five 11th -- her second hole -- then two-putted for her first birdie.

Lincicome holed a 17-foot putt from off the green at No. 16 to take the lead for good at 10-under par, moving ahead of Pettersen and Alfredsson.

She knocked a gap-wedge to just four feet at No. 1 to set up her third and final birdie, taking a two-shot lead that held up as she finished her round with eight consecutive pars.

Lincicome, a three-time LPGA Tour winner, completed 36 holes without a bogey for the first time.

"I think that was the only thing on my mind on the back nine," she said. "I looked at my caddie at one point and I just said, 'Can we just three-putt one hole just to get it out of the way and I can be done with it and move forward?

"These greens are really tricky. We couldn't figure them out. When we played left-to-right, they played right-to-left ... The speed was a little bit off. It was kind of all bad, but I finished out OK and [I'm] glad to be sitting here."

Pettersen -- who hasn't won since breaking through for five titles in 2007, including a major at the McDonald's LPGA Championship -- collected four birdies and two bogeys in her second round.

"I just was not as sharp as yesterday and I had a few scrambles, a few good bogeys that just managed to kick in some birdies on the back nine," said Pettersen. "Nice way to finish, but there's a lot more golf to be played."

Oh, the 2008 LPGA State Farm Classic winner, followed up her 66 in the first round with a 69 that included five birdies and two bogeys. She was happy that the weather warmed up after the tournament opened to chilly, windy conditions Thursday.

"I felt really good again," said Oh.

Defending champion Lorena Ochoa remained mostly out of contention after shooting a second 71. She is nine strokes back at two-under 142.

The cut line fell at one-over par 145 with 73 players making the weekend.

Colts give the ‘D’ its due

The Indianapolis Colts know that winning the Super Bowl last season put a huge target on their backs, and they expect opponents to go all-out to knock them from the top of the mountain.

They’ll get their first test from the New Orleans Saints this Thursday night. The defending champs had nothing but good things to say about the New Orleans defense this past week, praising their opponents’ pass rush and run-stopping abilities.

"They play very aggressively," head coach Tony Dungy told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. "They play a lot of man-to-man coverage, and they come after you. They have good pass rushers, and they're going to try to pressure us, I'm sure."

Both center Jeff Saturday and quarterback Peyton Manning gave New Orleans’ front four props, admitting keeping guys like Will Smithand Charles Grant contained would be a tall task for the offensive line.

Brees says bring it on

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.
